Olympic could go alright again after putting in a big pre-season and also competing in a tournament in Melbourne recently

Launie City, Devonport and Somerset should all be in with a show up here, not sure if any southern teams are competing this year?

I think the Knights, Zebras & Olympic are the favourites for the summer cup. The Knights are determined to win as much silverware possible in their 50th year. The Zebras would be quietly confident with pullen & fagg back on board. Olympic are going to be the surprise packet this year. They have been training hard since November, and have put together a strong squad who are hungry to make amends for a disappointing 2006 season

metro to take out summer cup with captain couragous corey"leather jacket" smith bagging a few hattricks in the opening rounds then a copule of double hattricks in the finals

Zebras will take out Pre season cup because of trial matches against Central Coast Mariners number 2 side and with a healthy squad to choose from. Watch out Knights the cup is leaving!

I'd be interested the hear what has changed at Olympic for them to become a strength? (if you listen to the Olympic boys) From what I hear, very little has changed. No strikers (Jamie Walker isn't anywhere near the standard required for Olympic to improve) & they've lost their only decent keeper.

Is someone talking things up?

who was the decent keeper who left??? olympic has one decent keeper and he is at the club

Hey people please refrain from posting negative comments about other people, it doesnt do any good!

Id like to know what the northerners have to say about the Hudson cup? Are you out there ...

Admin, there seems to be a vacuum located somewhere near Campbelltown that doesn't allow our Northern friends to post. It's the same on my blog site.

hehehe...unless they don't have the internet up there!!! hahaha (I'm just joking peoples - tongue in cheek comment) :-)

i dnt see how u can say zebras will win because the are playing this SO CALLED reserves for central coast mariners, for starters they are not even in the nsw premier leauge so i dnt think they are going to be as good as a team as ppl think

Why do we continue to have this parochial crap about my team is better than your team , just because we live either side of the Oatlands ( Hadrian ) wall .
Launceston City have got off their backside and organised a four team tournament - involving a South - North West - North and a Sydney team , what a great idea , does it matter who or what standard they are at , my information is that the contact was made through ex Northerner Tony Walmsley who is heavily involved with the club and were formed following the breakup of Northern Spirit.
For those with short memories , games against Mainland teams were common events under the Morton era , good spectacles and excellent to take part in , it was good to test your playing abilities against unknown quality players.

I would like to City every success with the tournament , and i for one will take the opportunity to travel up highway to watch what i hope will be entertaining football, lets be honest it has to be better than the North - South rubbish we saw last year.

Rapid, it's not a parochial issue it's a matter of fact.

We were being told Northern Spirit (ex NSL) was particpating in this tournament. Then it was the Central Coast Mariners reserves. None of which is true.

Gladesville Spirit is the team taking part in this preseason tournament. They are a NSW Div.1 team.

I, for one, resent being told that I should spend my hard earned money to travel north and pay my admission, supposedly to see Northern Spirit (a team I formerly supported in the NSL) knowing full well that this isn't the team playing at all. That's plainly dishonest.

How would you feel if you were told the Socceroos were playing and rocked along to see Viduka, Neill, Kewell & Co. and all you saw was a team made up of players from State League? You'd feel ripped off and rightly so.

Yeah, good on Launceston City for having a go. It's not the concept I'm criticising, it's the method. Under those circumstances I'll stay home and save my money. Hopefully there's a lesson in all of that!

SPIRIT FIRST GRADE WIN OVER MARCONI
In what should be a big boost to the confidence of SPIRIT FC First Graders, their first trial for the season last Saturday at Hajduk Stadium against the Premier League side MARCONI ended in a 1 - 0 win to SPIRIT.

The goal came in the second half from new signing Eurico Joppert de Freitas Neto (Bola) after a good first half in which SPIRIT had the chances and were unlucky not to be in front at the break.

The game was used to test out some of the new blood in the team for 2007 and coach Tony Walmsley was very happy with what he saw.

You need to recognise that State League 1 Sydney is a damn sight stronger than Div 1 Hobart.

" It's ok Marconi probably only had juniors in "

For Div 1 im thinking its going to be pretty tight between DOSA, Beachside and Hobart United, which all have strong squads. The premier aligned clubs dont seem to get there squads ready until the season is under way.

how did the zebras go against the "spirit"?

Anonymous said...

Zebras didnt compete in Lton.
Launceston City lost 3 -0 to Spirit.

Devonport lost 3-2 to SOuth Hobart.

Lton City defeated Devonport 1-0.

Spirit defeated South Hobart 1-0. (Four yellow cards & 2 Red cards) Very competitive match - South were without Daniel Brown, Tom Gordon and Nathan Robinson - look out Knights!!

look out knights, i dnt think so, just because they lost 1 nil to a mainland team who were probly without half the squad doesnt make them a instant threat over night, knights to win the leauge easy

Anonymous said...

No - according to Tony Walmsley they had their full squad. They were technically better than South , and in both their games lacked the killer finish - they did hit wood work a couple of times in the final. They play in the third tier of NSW soccer. And you would expect that our better teams would be competitive.

On another note Devonport and Launceston City looked very ordinary and their supporters would be praying that there were at least 6 players to come in to each side. Devonport officials indicated that they were only missing one or two, as I understand was the case for City. Somerset for back to back premierships?

Rangers will be in the mix this year im sure

Anonymous said...

What about Burnie United?

Anonymous said...

Yep, in there with the mix should be Burnie! I would say at this point the table will be prety tight in the north all season! I'm sure Somerset will give the back to back a shake, City will be a handful as always, but may struggle against some young sides in the mix this year! Burnie will suffer dearly from the lose of MArk Ambrose, Prospect Knights on their day will be hard to topple Rangers look stronger and more fucosed this pre season, consistancy will win or lose their championship, River wont of lost any talent but may suffer from lack of match practice by not entering Hudson Cup! Devonport would have been disapointed with last year and working hard to get back to the top of the table, Ulvertone looked like something clicked at the end of 06 so that may have been their last year at the foot of the table for a while and Launceston should be on their own at the bottom, at least they can only improve, years of neglect of their juniors and new comers have taken a hugh toll!

thats last year 1-9 table finishers, feel free to add your thoughts, but I would suggest any one of last years top 6 can win it this year!

Beachside will win div 1 easy. united have nothing, no coach, no players. dosa have no one that can score, closest to come near beachside will be kingborough. interesting match up first round between the two. winner will win the season.

south hobart will win summer cup because they take it serious. everyone else knows it is just pre season.

a good pre-season leads to a good season i think.
i think burnie will come strong same as ulverstone if they compete again.
watch out for launceston united ey :)
joking i'm the senior keeper there... trust me guys united is getting better, hopefully we'll win a game this pre-season.
rangers if they put in some effort i reckon would win the cup.. they usually just take it easy in the hudson though.
