Recent Meeting

Brian has informed me that there was a meeting of all the Southern Presidents last week, does anybody know of any developments that resulted from the meeting?

I have heard it can be difficult for some Presidents to push their ideas ...

Promotion Test

After Hobart United's somewhat difficult attempted hijack of the big league from Division 1 last year, do you think that Taroona can make a more positive impression? Has anybody played against them?

Are Division 1 clubs just not strong enough ...?

New National Regulations

By popular demand, what are your thoughts on the new National Regulations put forward by the FFA that take place on January 1st? (Can be downloaded from the FFA website, www.footballaustralia.com.au). Although they seem quite necessary and applicable for most clubs, Trevor is right in saying that it will only increase the amount of total work club volunteers are committed to completing!

More discussion on this topic can also be found at Blackjack's blog; www.tasfootball.plebian.net.

Player Incentives

Do you believe it is right/wrong, or even necessary at all that some players should receive any kind of incentive to play? We are not professional ... well not yet anyway!

Pre-Season

Is starting pre-season in late November, early December too much? Many AFL clubs have already begun preperations, and we know that our football is a different game, but what is the ideal start for an ideal pre-season? Soccer 10 months of the year!

Summer Cup

Do you think the Summer Cup should be scrapped in place of maybe 3 extra games for the season propper? Clubs can then play warm-up/friendlies against whoever they choose. Some clubs feel that the Summer Cup is a waste of their time and does not help prepare them for the coming season.

Best Players

Who do you think are the best players in the state? Past and present? (Keep it positive!)

Coaching

A current hot topic in Tasmanian soccer; the introduction of minimum coaching standards for 2007. Do players think their coaches at their club are providing good coaching or are they just going through the motions? Are the coaching requirements necessary?

Blatter Apologises to Aussies

"Blatter said Australians had every reason to feel aggrieved by the manner of their exit when they were beaten by eventual champions Italy ..."

"The Socceroos should have gone into the quarter-finals in place of Italy"

Too little too late Sepp ... just ram home the devastation!

Statewide Social Cup

Could the FFT possibly revive the Social Cup, except this time include the Northern Social competitors as well? Therefore, creating a social version of the Statewide Cup. Not only a fun trip away for the lads, but invovling more players statewide?

Summer League

If the FFT goes ahead with a Summer League will they open up the summer competition to both the Premier League and Division 1 as it used to be? Otherwise they may be short on numbers?!

The A-League

Do many people out there watch the A-League? What do you think of the standard and do you think the new structure is pushing the game in the right direction?

North v South

It is fantastic to see the North v South rivalry up and running again, for both the Mens and Womens competitions. It seemed as if all the games were well recieved by both the players and supporters who attended the matches. Not only is it providing a good new incentive for the players to achieve at a higher level, but its allowing the states top players to showcase their talents all in a single game. The longer these matches continue to be built up the greater emphasis players, coaches, clubs and supporters will put on them.

Vic Tuting Medal

The Vic Tuting Medal count was held on Friday night, and the event was again well run and enjoyed by all those that attended. The players that were in the running for the medal in the final rounds fully deserved to be there, and mostly consisted of those who had represented the Southern team that comfortably defeated the North.

An interesting point that came out of the night was that not only were the two joint winners under the age of 21, but six out of the nine leaders were also around that age! This says that the young talent that is being produced in Tasmania is really starting to step up. This is most noticeable in that the average age of some of the Premier League squads is below that 25 age bracket.

However, this may not all be as positive as we think! It could also mean that alot of clubs are lacking guidance from older club players and figures. The overall lack of depth could hinder these bright young stars from furthering their game to their full potential. A mix of ages and abilities is often a proven formula for success, just take the Glenorchy Knights, Hobart Zebras, Hobart United and Taroona who have all won titles in recent years.

Another interesting note to be taken from the night was that for the first time in a long while someone from a non-Premier League club won the overall Best & Fairest Medal for the Southern U19 competition. This was a magnificent effort by the young lad who out polled his fellow competitors by something around the 8 vote margin! This again however leads to a potentially negative backlash for Football Tasmania as the rumours spread that they have already decided that no non-Premier League based clus shall be allowed to enter a Junior team in the U19 competition from 2007. This seriously has to be questioned when obvious talent is being denied a chance, and they are outwardly declaring their intent to garner the youth?!

State League

Do you think it will be good to go back to the State League format?

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog that is everything soccer in Tasmania. Feel free to post anything, with in reason, about soccer in Tasmania.

e.g. Does anybody else think it would be beneficial to have no Premier League based clubs in Division 1, therefore, strengthening soccer overall and creating a proper relegation/promotion system?
