Promotion Test

After Hobart United's somewhat difficult attempted hijack of the big league from Division 1 last year, do you think that Taroona can make a more positive impression? Has anybody played against them?

Are Division 1 clubs just not strong enough ...?

Taroona face the same problems that teams from the English Championship do. Finding players that are good enough and can stay injury free for long enough to enable them to stay up and consolidate their position in the top league. If Taroona can stay up for a 2-3 seasons, they have sufficient youngsters coming through to develop a serious threat to the top four, but staying up will be the big task.

Hobart United entered the Premier League too soon. They would have been better prepared if they had to spend another season or two in Div.1 to enable them to consolidate player numbers and consistency. The opportunity for them to develop a few youth players would also have been benefitial. Too much too soon would be the best way to describe the Hobart United experience. I hope they can consolidate in Div.1 now before having another shot at the top league in a few years.

Good luck to both teams.

Would def have to agree with you there Blackjack. United just lacked the depth to compete in the big league, however, the question would have always lingered if they didnt give it a crack?! If Taroona can cement a spot in the league and be there in 2008 then they have a great set of juniors coming through that could provide them with the depth needed to be competitive.

Taroona will be a lot stronger than people give them credit for.
Having watched their practice game against Glenorchy Knights, although Knights were just a little too strong in the end, they definately stuck it to the Knights who felt under extreme pressure and at one stage looked like crumbling.
Midfield and forward line looked strong, defense made a few errors which could have made the game much closer in the end.

Taroona for premiership 07

I agree they have a lot of younger players coming through, but it remains to be seen if (a) the younger players get the chance to develop, (b)can Taroona get more than a few wins to show the young blokes there's something to aim for, or (c) if Taroona aren't making the grade, do the young blokes move on to one of the bigger teams.

If they can last out the year and stay up, then they might be able to attract some quality young blokes. Also if they manage to bring through quickly a young player or two, then you're going to attract some of those who get stuck in the top fours reserves as there's little or no movement for the first team.

The biggest problems the teams attempting to come through and stay up is that the young players want success straight away. They're brought up on the English Premiership where some young wonder is breaking through on a regular basis, and they expect to be able to do the same thing here without putting in the hard graft and earning their way. If they don't get first team footie quickly there's always some unscrupulous characters out-there who entice them to "come over to us, we'll have you in the first team as quick as", they go there don't fit in and end up stuffed.

The knights would of smashed taroona with a full team and on a flatter deck, plus kelly changed formation and players. would of been ten, just like they killed hobart utd 10-0 last season.

best of luck to them, they'll upsat a few teams... lookout metro!
